Summary of the Conflict of Interest Law for State Employees

G.L. c. 268A

We have taken an Oath to follow and promote these Laws. The following is a summary of Mass Conflict of Interest Laws: 

(a) Bribes. Asking for and taking bribes is prohibited. (See Section 2)
A bribe is anything of value corruptly received by a state employee in exchange for the employee being influenced in his official actions. Giving, offering, receiving, or asking for a bribe is illegal.

(b) Gifts and gratuities

c) Misuse of position. Using your official position to get something you are not entitled to, or to get someone else something they are not entitled to, is prohibited. Causing someone else to do these things is also prohibited. (See Sections 23(b)(2) and 26)

(d) Self-dealing and nepotism.

(e) False claims.

(f) Appearance of conflict. Acting in a manner that would make a reasonable person think you can be improperly influenced is prohibited.
