Lake Shirley Notification of Aquatic Treatment

Areas of Lake Shirley will be chemically treated to control invasive and nuisance aquatic vegetation on Thursday, July 16th. The USEPA/MA registered aquatic herbicides to be used are Tribune (diquat), Nautique (copper) and Red Eagle (flumioxazin). The entire lake will be closed to all water uses (including swimming, boating and fishing) on the day of treatment only. Furthermore, water from the lake cannot be used for livestock watering for one day following treatment or until July 18th, drinking/cooking for three days or until July 20th and irrigation for 5 days or until July 22nd. The work is being performed for the Lake Shirley Improvement Corporation, pursuant to a permit (license) issued by MA DEP, Office of Watershed Management and the Lunenburg and Shirley Conservation Commissions.
