Due Dates for Tax Payments, Waiver of Penalties and Interest until June 30th, Deadline for Statutory Exemptions:

Per the special legislation that was signed into law Chapter 53 of the Acts of 2020 on April 3, 2020 to address the challenges faced by municipalities and state authorities resulting from COVID-19, the Town, through their Chief Executive Officer (Board of Selectmen in Lunenburg) have the option of voting to extend due dates for tax payments to no later than June 1st and have the option of voting to waive interest and penalties on excise, taxes, and betterment assessment for any payments with a due date on or after March 10, 2020 and made after its respective due date but before June 30, 2020.
On Tuesday, April 14, 2020, the Board of Selectmen voted to keep the current due dates as May 1st and voted to waive interest and penalties on excise, taxes, and betterment assessments for any payments with a due date on or after March 10, 2020 and made after their respective due date but before June 30, 2020. The Division of Local Services under the Department of Revenue has determined that the last day for a taxpayer to pay the bill and qualify for this waiver is June 29, 2020; therefore any payments received after June 29, 2020, it will be too late to apply the waiver and interest and penalties will not be waived.
In addition, per Chapter 53 of the Acts of 2020, the Board of Selectmen voted to extend the deadline to apply for Statutory Exemptions.
As a reminder, please do not leave tax payments in the box outside Town Hall due to staff working limited hours in the building and working remotely. Tax payments should only be mailed to the Town's lockbox or can be paid online.
