The mission of the Department of Public Works is to provide high quality, cost effective, efficient, and safe services to protect, preserve and improve the Town’s roadway infrastructure and related assets in a manner which meets and enhances the current and future social and economic needs of the community; to contribute to a healthy, safe and quality environment for the Town’s citizens and visitors; and to provide environmentally sound means of solid waste and wastewater disposal.    

The department currently have lock boxes available for all payments.

ATTENTION

  • Trees: For trees overgrowing and in danger of falling onto utility wires, contact Unitil at 888-301-7700.
  • Roadside Tree Removal & Trimming Projects
    Contact DPW Department at 978-582-4160 for current information on UNITIL's Tree Management Plan.
    Work done on the town's designated "scenic roads" are upon approval of the Planning Board and DPW.

  • Streelights: Unitil is no longer the responsible party to repair the streetlights in Lunenburg. Please call the DPW at 978-582-4160 to request repairs to a streetlight.  Please provide the street address and pole number.  You may also use the online Public Works - Request For Service form.
  • Pot Holes: To report a pot hole or other issue with the roadway, please either fill out the online Service Request Form, or call the DPW at 978-582-4160.
  • MassDOT Rt 2A (Massachusetts Avenue) is maintained by the Massachusetts Highway Department, please contact them at (857) 368-4636 ex 2 for any issues involving Mass. Ave.
