The Town of Lunenburg offers income-eligible senior citizens age 60 or older an opportunity to receive up to $1500.00 off their property tax bill. Participants work in various Town departments to earn the tax abatement. For each hour worked a person will receive $12.00 and can work up to 125 hours between the January 1 and November 1, 2020 to receive the $1500.00 tax abatement. Any hours worked beyond that will be considered volunteer hours.

Are You Eligible?
1) Must be 60 years of age or older,
2) Own & occupy a home in Lunenburg as your primary residence for at least one year,
3) Applicants must provide verification of useable gross income in order to be considered for the program (a prior year 1040 income tax return),
4) Receive a property tax bill in your name or your spouse's name who is also 60 years of age or older,
5) Meet the income guidelines of One person household -$50,000 or a Two person household- $75,000

All new applicants will require a CORI background check, All applicants must apply and be accepted annually for participation in the program. Earnings are exempt from state taxes only and are subject to Federal and FICA tax withholdings and are also subject to OBRA if participant is not receiving a pension from the Worcester County Retirement Board or the Massachusetts State Teachers Retirement Board. All necessary paperwork must be completed prior to any work for the Town is done. Final amount earned will be applied to your 3rd quarter real estate bill.
